The Miners' Chapel

Welcome
We are the most northerly Methodist Church in Wales, situated on the north coast of Anglesey. We have an interesting history.
We opened our church in 1832 in response to the need for the influx of English speaking copper miners to have an English language service. The manager of the copper mine was a Cornish Methodist Local Preacher, James Treweek, and he was keen to provide worship for his workers. Interestingly, as a child, James Treweek heard John Wesley preach at Gwennap Pit near Redruth in Cornwall.
Above are exterior and interior photos of our old chapel. We have left this building to become a "church without walls".
If you are resident here or are a visitor, you are assured of a warm welcome. On the first and third Sunday of each month we have a service at Clwb Y Gorlan, Amlwch. Look out for the bright blue gable near the caravan sales site! Our second and fourth Sunday service each month is held at Hafan Cefni which is an excellent sheltered accommodation in the centre of Llangefni, our county town. When there is a fifth Sunday in the month this service is held at St Eleth's Church in Wales in the centre of Amlwch.
Our Welsh Methodist friends will continue to worship for the foreseeable future in our old chapel in Wesley Street, Amlwch.
